OBJE:_META	<metadataxml><content><line><p>Married Margaret Ann Miltenberger (2nd wife) on 19 Jun 1828 in Darke Co., OH. He was the father of Sarah Shearer (1810-1899), Eli Shearer (b. 1805), Andrew Shearer (b. 1825), Lizzie, Jacob, and Mary Shearer (1814). </p><p>In 1834, David Shearer, a native of North Carolina, emigrated from Ohio, where he had lived for some years, with his family, consisting of a wife and thirteen children, and located on hundred and sixty acres in section nineteen. His son Eli and A.J. Briney, who had accompanied the family from Ohio, located lands adjoining.&nbsp; There were no settlers nearer than five miles distant. They journeyed from Ohio in four two-horse wagons. They went to mill to Prairie Ronde in Kalamazoo county, thirty-five miles distant. The following children of Eli Shearer are now living. Mrs. A.J. Penland, Mrs. Margaret Arnold, Daniel, and Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens. Two children of Jacob Shearer are now living.&nbsp; William H. Shearer and Mrs. Sarah Peters.&nbsp; William H. is now living on the farm purchased by his father of the government in 1839. Five children of Andrew Shearer are living, William A., Alexander, Charles, Mrs. Sarah Bradford and Mrs. Mary Newel. In 1834 David Ball settled in the township, but in 1839 sold out and removed to a foreign state. In 1835 A.J. Briney, William Miltenberger and William Baumgartner, all from Ohio settled in the township. (from the History of Berrien County)</p></line></content></metadataxml>
