<metadataxml><content><line>&lt;p&gt;The following is a transcription of the Manumission Document filed in District No. 1 Court, Calaveras County, California, on 4 September, 1851, and executed on 9 August, 1850, freeing a slave named Abram.&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;"Page 95, Calaveras County District No. 1 Court."&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;Known to all men by these presents that I John S Wallace&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;of Calaveras County and territory of California&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;have on this 9th day of August in the year of&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred &amp;amp; Fifty&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;set free and emancipated a servant man&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;by the name of Abram and do for and in&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;pay to me in hand paid the receipt whereof&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;is hereby acknowleged, do hereby emancipate and&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;set free and do by these presents do make and&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;coml.... said Abram a free man to all&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;intent and purposes as though he was born&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;free, and I the said John S Wallace do&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;bind myself to warrant and defend said&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;Abram in his freedom free from the claim&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;of myself my heirs Executors and Administrators&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;and also from my person or persons&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;claiming by through or under me or them.&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;Given under my hand this day and&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;date written&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;JOHN S WALLACE&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;I hereby certify that John S Wallace did appear&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;before me this 9th day of August 1850 and&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;acknowledge the forgoing instrument to be his&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;act and deed for the purposes therein&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;mentioned.&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;CHARLES ROYNTON&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;Justice of the Peace&lt;/p&gt;</line><line>&lt;p&gt;Dist.
