OBJE:_META | <metadataxml><content><line><p>The following is a transcription of the Manumission Document filed in District No. 1 Court, Calaveras County, California, on 4 September, 1851, and executed on 9 August, 1850, freeing a slave named Abram.</p></line><line><p>&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>"Page 95, Calaveras County District No. 1 Court."</p></line><line><p>&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>Known to all men by these presents that I John S Wallace&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>of Calaveras County and territory of California</p></line><line><p>have on this 9th day of August in the year of</p></line><line><p>our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred &amp; Fifty</p></line><line><p>set free and emancipated a servant man</p></line><line><p>by the name of Abram and do for and in</p></line><line><p>consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars</p></line><line><p>pay to me in hand paid the receipt whereof</p></line><line><p>is hereby acknowleged, do hereby emancipate and</p></line><line><p>set free and do by these presents do make and</p></line><line><p>coml.... said Abram a free man to all</p></line><line><p>intent and purposes as though he was born</p></line><line><p>free, and I the said John S Wallace do</p></line><line><p>bind myself to warrant and defend said</p></line><line><p>Abram in his freedom free from the claim</p></line><line><p>of myself my heirs Executors and Administrators</p></line><line><p>and also from my person or persons&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>claiming by through or under me or them.</p></line><line><p>Given under my hand this day and&nbsp;</p></line><line><p>date written</p></line><line><p>JOHN S WALLACE</p></line><line><p>I hereby certify that John S Wallace did appear</p></line><line><p>before me this 9th day of August 1850 and</p></line><line><p>acknowledge the forgoing instrument to be his</p></line><line><p>act and deed for the purposes therein</p></line><line><p>mentioned.</p></line><line><p>CHARLES ROYNTON</p></line><line><p>Justice of the Peace</p></line><line><p>Dist.
