Male child. 25 January 1761&lt;br&gt;BASTARDY BOND (A transcription of the original)&lt;br&gt;Know all men by these Presents that we Arthur Featherstone of Brenchley in the county of Kent husbandman and John Featherstone of Capel in the county aforesaid husbandman am held and firmly Bound to Richard Gibbon and John Apps the now Churchwardens of the Parish of Brenchley in the County aforesaid and to James Thorn and Alex Barham Overseers of the Poor of the Same Parish in the sum of one hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers, or either of them, their or either of their Certain Attorney Executors, Admons, Successors or Assigns for the true and faithful payment whereof we bind ourselves or our and every of our Heirs, Executors and Admons firmly by these Present sealed with our seals, Dated the twenty fifth day of January in the first year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of god of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty one Thereas the above bound John Featherstone stands charged by one Sarah Hartnup late of this Parish of Brenchley above named single woman and now lately deceased to be the Putative father of a Male Bastard Child lately born of her body which is chargeable to the Inhabitants of the Said Parish of Brenchley. Now the condition of this Obligation above written is such that if the above bound Arthur Featherstone and John Featherstone or either of them or any of their Heirs, Executors, and Admons, shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid from the twenty seventh of August last past from the Date hereof to the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Brenchley and their successors for the time being one shilling a week to be paid monthly and towards the maintenance and Bringing Up of the Said Bastard Child so long as shall or maybe chargeable to the aforesaid Inhabitants or until the Said Bastard Child is or shall be able to provide for himself or shall die That then this obligation above written to be void and of none effect or else to Remain in full force power and virtue.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Sealed and Delivered/being first duly stamped in the presence of Thos Diamond &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The mark and seal of the above bound Arthur Featherstone&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Francis Thorn &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The mark and seal of the above bound John Featherstone&lt;/p&gt;</line></content></metadataxml>
