<metadataxml><content><line>&lt;font size="3"&gt;&lt;em&gt;John&lt;/em&gt; volunteered for military service in Captain &lt;strong&gt;Jesse Walton&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;rsquo;s company of Minute Men in 1775 or 1776.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;Later he &amp;ldquo;transferred to Captain &lt;strong&gt;Benjamin Cleveland&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;rsquo;s, and is listed as having fought in the Battle of King&amp;rsquo;s Mountain.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;On 10/30/1832 he applied for Revolutionary War pension and gave Rowan Co as his birthplace.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;In 1840, age 87, he was listed as a Rev. War pensioner.&lt;/font&gt; &lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt"&gt;&amp;ldquo;He joined Old Roaring River Church by &amp;lsquo;experience and baptism&amp;rsquo; 12 January 1789.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;In 1790 he became a deacon of the church&amp;hellip;.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;He was a justice of the peace and tax lister&amp;rdquo; for Traphill.&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;He married &lt;strong&gt;Sarah Shores&lt;/strong&gt; in 1777 and is buried near Traphill with a Revolutionary soldier marker.&lt;sup&gt;1&lt;/sup&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt"&gt;[(1800 Wi, p62)&lt;sup&gt;212&lt;/sup&gt;; (1810 Wi, p258)&lt;sup&gt;275&lt;/sup&gt;; (1830 Wi, p343)&lt;sup&gt;277&lt;/sup&gt;; (1840 Wi, Spicer&amp;rsquo;s, age 87)&lt;sup&gt;278&lt;/sup&gt;]&lt;span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;[b&lt;sup&gt;1,7,13,86&lt;/sup&gt;,&amp;nbsp;d&lt;sup&gt;1,86,173&lt;/sup&gt;]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;</line></content></metadataxml>
