OBJE:_META | <metadataxml><content><line><p>Obituary<br><em>The Record and Union</em><br>Published Date Friday, April 20, 1894 Page 2, Column 3</p></line><line><p>Obituary.<br>For T<em>he Record and Union.</em></p></line><line><p><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">Mrs. Joseph Bear, nee Eliza Johnston, died on the 14</span><sup style="text-indent: 0.5in;">th</sup><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"> day of April 1894, at the city of Rochester, Minnesota, aged 66 years, three months and twenty-two days.<br><br></span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">The subject of this sketch was born in the city of Silgo, Ireland, on the 23</span><sup style="text-indent: 0.5in;">rd</sup><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"> day of December, 1828. At the age of eighteen she came to America, and stopped for a time at Niagara Falls. In the year 1849, she was joined in marriage to Joseph Bear and located in Ohio. In the spring of 1856 they emigrated to Minnesota, and settle in Eyota township some three miles southwest of the village of Eyota, and remained on the farm until the death of her husband, which occurred about six years ago, after which she located in Rochester.<br><br></span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">In youth Mrs. Bear was confirmed in the Episcopal church, and happily sustained a Christian standing with her neighbors during her long life. Her example and influence in her family was always on the side of safety and right, the fruit of which is seen in the exemplary life of her sons. She clultivated a cheerful disposition and made herself useful with her sunshine and visitis in the neighborhood. Two sons survive her, to carry on memory&rsquo;s tablet the counsel and model life of a fond mother, Samuel, a business man at Sioux Falls, Dakota, and Joseph, a lawyer at Rochester, Minnesota.<br><br></span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">Many thanks to kind friends for their expressions of sympathy during the family&rsquo;s bereavement.<br><br></span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">&ndash;J.W.
