Bruce was born November 7, 1916 in Glendale Springs, Ashe County, NC, son of George Hampton and Annie Bare Harless. He was the oldest of eight children. He was graduated from Glade Valley High School, in Sparta, NC on April 27, 1936 and later completed land-surveying training in North Carolina and worked for the State of North Carolina. Bruce married Ruth Elizabeth Betty Bush of Hampton, VA on November 7, 1940. They lived in Greensboro, NC most of the early years and moved to Virginia Beach, VA in 1965.He was an active member of several Southern Baptist churches in North Carolina and Virginia through the years. He served in various lay capacities, including Deacon, Sunday School Director, and church training (BTU) director at Lindley Park Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. He was an active member of the Masons in North Carolina and Virginia.He is survived by three daughters and one son, Marilyn Harless of Greensboro, NC; Judith Ann and Ray Allen of Dover, DE; Bruce, Jr. and Martha Harless of Virginia Beach, VA; and Nancy Leigh and Timothy Hauck of Virginia Beach, VA; former wife, Betty Harless of Dover, DE; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bernice Waters and Billie and Lou Coldron, all of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and their families, nieces, and nephews, and a special friend, Bobbi Wiseman of Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel in Chesapeake on Saturday, March 3 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service. A second funeral service will be held in Greensboro, NC on Monday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Lindley Park Baptist Church, 4010 Walker Avenue. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service. Internment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to ECR (Enchanced Classroom Resources), 937 Sunnyside Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464-2128 or a charity of choice. ECR is a 501c3 faith-based mission organization that provides humanitarian aid in Southeast Asia.&nbsp;</p></line></content></metadataxml> |
