In 1812 she married Jonathan Hoopes in York County, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of 12 children.
In 1830, they moved to Ohio, while living there, they heard about the Prophet Joseph Smith and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and were baptized members of the church.
They endured much persecution in Ohio, so moved on to Missouri with the Saints. There
they enjoyed peace for only a short time before they were plagued with persecution again.
While living in Missouri, Rebecca and her children were taken hostage by mobs who wanted to kill her husband. They were later released. Not long after they were forced to flee, leaving their home and most of their belongings behind.
They moved to Nauvoo, where she enjoyed living not far from the Prophet Joseph and Emma for a time. While in Nauvoo Rebecca’s husband and 19 year old son were imprisoned on false charges by angry mobsters. They were released through the efforts of the Prophet Joseph. Again, they were forced to flee their home in Nauvoo, and their property and belongings were confiscated by the mobs.
They traveled to Utah with the Harlow Redfield company. Little more is known about where they went after Nauvoo or about their trip West..
In 1850 they were living in Provo. They later moved to Weston, Idaho where they helped to establish that community in Cache County, Utah.
Rebecca had a knowledge of herbs and was able to use them to make medicine to help the ill. She was greatly in demand for her knowledge and skills as a nurse. Her canker medicine was highly effective and is still in use today.
Rebecca died in the fall of 1863 and was laid to rest in Mendon, Cache County, Utah.

May God bless those precious Mothers who moved on in faith from place to place.
Who lived and died righteously-giving us the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

References: Daughters of Utah Pioneers page 1412, Historic Nauvoo maps and church records, History of the Church volume 5 page 326, Hoopes family records on file in Nauvoo.</line>
</metadataxml>
